ROVC at the Brainport Human Campus - where technology stays human

ROVC, the technical training provider of the Netherlands, has been located at the Brainport Human Campus since 2020. A conscious choice, says Tom, TD technician: "We already had locations in Rotterdam and Ede at the time, but for people from the south that was quite a journey. That's why we were looking for a place closer to home.

Technology learning in the heart of the region

With the TechCenter on the Brainport Human Campus, ROVC is responding to the growing demand for practical technical training. The location features 1,000 m² of theory classrooms and a practice hall with modern facilities. "We are proud that we can contribute to the development of professionals for the technical labor market in the southern Netherlands," Tom said. "And that in a place where everything comes together: technology, people and connection."

A place where you feel at home

Tom feels right at home: "It's familiar here. You know the people, you greet each other, and that really gives a village feeling." Justyna, front office assistant and facilities support worker, adds: "The greenery on campus is beautiful. You see people working outside on benches, with their laptops. There is a relaxed atmosphere, and that is contagious."

It is also a pleasant learning environment for students. "Lunch is always a highlight," Tom laughs. "And the short lines of communication with the campus brasserie and technical services make the work even more enjoyable for us."

Cooperation is in the little things

Although there are no formal collaborations with campus colleagues or residents, the mutual help is great. The contacts that have developed feel valuable to both Tom and Justyna. "We have good contact with the cleaning, catering and technical services of the campus. And during lunch, someone always asks if you want to join them. Some people from campus almost feel like colleagues. That typifies the atmosphere here," Justyna says. "There is genuine interest in each other and that works very nicely."

"We help each other where necessary," Tom explains. "For example, when we were setting up a cage in the warehouse, the campus technical service came to our aid. Or when in the winter the gritting truck wants to enter the grounds, I help out with the removable traffic bollards, so the truck can enter the grounds. They are small things, taken for granted for us, but they do make a difference."

Involved on campus

ROVC is actively involved in campus in their own way, and vice versa. Among other things, the one-year anniversary was celebrated with a food truck by Werner van Hoof, a connection of the campus.

The Brabant hospitality is palpable, and that fits well with ROVC's mission: to train people for the technology of the future, in an environment where learning and working go hand in hand. "For students taking classes in the afternoon plus connecting evening, there is even freshly prepared dinner available." says Justyna.
